Pam Grier is the sugar you dip your strawberries in, the sriracha you add to the Pho, the horns that proceed the chorus. What is Coffy then? Black, bitter and a little uncool compared to the highs of Friday Foster, Sheba, Baby, and Foxy Brown. While the kills pay for the price of admission and Grier is just as magnetic as ever, the supporting characters are lacking and the story melts away even as the film plays. You can’t help but wonder if Director Jack Hill really knew what he had with Grier, she doesn’t speak nor shoot nearly enough.
