What if we road tripped from Canada to Mexico, crushed some beers and interviewed some Atomic Bomb Survivors? This is the question posed by director Shinpei Takeda, in an essentially self indulgent filmmaking project which quickly crumbles under the psychological weight of the survivors’ stories. Soon they realize that there is no casual adventure to be had, and by hearing these stories they are implicated in a larger commitment to keeping them alive. A combination of Takeda’s charm and father time help elicit from the survivors seemingly uninhibited recollections of both bombings. While not essential, this film is deeply affecting.
